Have you looked into the 8.1 big block with B3 drive? That engine would really wake up that heavy hull. As for outboards, would the transom be strong...

On my 246 I have the 300mpi 2.2 ratio B3 drive and 22 pitch props. Top speed about 44mph. (Briefly hit 46mph when new)

In rough water you can kiss your dinghy good bye. My boat is 8'6" like yours and a 2.4 meter Mercury Airdeck fits just fine.
