    New to us

We (wife and three boys) just purchased a 1984 Contessa 2850 Command Bridge as an island taxi and fishing platform. We live in Bellingham Washington and the boat is currently kept in Blaine the Canadian border town. I would like to thank everyone who has posted their advice on these forums, as a guest we used this resource to help guide our purchase. I grew up sailing/racing in Southern California and have owned and worked on sailboats; this is my first power boat. Being able to triple COG and VMG (velocity made good) Sold my wife. I am new to these boats so I will be posting newbie questions and soaking up information.

One thing you will notice is crap in the water coming at you with less time to react. I suggest you take a look at joining a group like the Bellingham Yacht Club. Doing that widens your network and the advantage of reciprocal moorage at a lot of other clubs. It also helps get a buddy cruise together to go to places like Princess Louisa, Desolation Sound and the Broughtens.
Feel free to PM me if you have any questions.

Don77 - Boat sold for 6900 during the sea trail a few issues arose (stem drive kicked up in reverse) not on the recent survey (year old) the owner graciously agreed to pay for the repairs, this started an avalanche ( replaced transom shield, steering fork and helmet, rebuild of the stern drive, new manifolds and risers) we agreed to a credit of 4200 towards repair bill, so I paid 2700 for the boat plus repairs. The interior is like new has been in a covered marina since purchesed and full canvas (flybridge and back deck area).

I like your humor, yes my wife is priceless so I pay on a layaway plan and I could’t afford the price they wanted for the kids, guess I am stuck with them.

Pcpete - thank you for the advice. We are looking into joining the Bellingham Yacht club. We have reservations for Deere Harobor this July.

itsabowtime - We learned to look for the duo prop from this website, glad to hear another voice in agreement.

Is it recommend to take Coasty Auxillary courses?

I was also going to ask how much you got for the wife I also have a new to me 86 2850 Contessa SB with a DP and it performs very well. What dates are going to be at Deer Harbor? I will be there in July as well. The local Power Squadron is also another great resource and great club to be a member of. Worth checking out.

aluminum and full grate; cool video. I have done the envirmental review and permitting for single family docks with this construction technique. Looking forward to seeing it in person.

Ruffryder, make reservations at Rosario soon if you can. The Edmonds Yacht Club Commodores Cruise will be there the 6th & 7th. I love to see you there and several BOC members are signed up for the cruise. One of them will be thrilled to give you a real tour of your boat. He’s all about military hulls after being a corpsman on a river boat in ‘Nam. Hope to see ya there.
