    Newport Oregon

Newport harbor is almost perfect in how it deals with Transient ocean going boats.

I called yesterday morning and the harbormaster reserved a spot on the long side tie guest dock. The dock was easy to pull into, and the fuel dock was right across the fairway.

The harbor office is professional, and the people are nice. There is a large RV park as part of the harbor, and there is a small store on the property. There is also a wonderful large aquarium, and the rogue brewery with restaurant.

The only downside is the location on the south spit, away from the town itself, but I found uber easy to use and relatively inexpensive.

I'm giving Newport a 4 star rating, only because of the location sway from town. Other than that is is a great place to stay.

Kevin, take advantage of those harbors that know how to cater to transients while you can. With the exception of the moorings at Catalina, most harbors in SoCal are challenging to transients. Be sure to bring your insurance dec page with you.

That's exactly why I chose Crecent city as a place to leave the boat for a couple of weeks. I am not expecting that kind of small town service until I get to Ensenada.

Hey Kevin, I've found that the folks at King Harbor in Redondo Beach, So Cal are friendly and love transients. I have made that a stop when going South to MX.
