Solo down the California Coast

Tonight I am in Bodega Bay, after a long easy day. The seas were following all day peaking at about 5-6 feet at point Arena.
This is not a visiting stop. There is nothing anywhere near the harbor that is interesting. This is just a place to tie up for the night.

Tomorrow I'll head for Monterey. That is a place i want to visit, and I alrerady called ahead and was assured there is plenty of transient dock space.

This morning I am making way from Bodega Bay to Monterey. The seas are benign, but a bit beamy during the first part to Point Reys as they are coming out of the northwest.
After that I turn to the southeast and the waves will be behind me for the rest of the day.
Today I am traveling at 9 knots which is sufficient to get me to Monterey before nightfall.

Wow! You are really moving along! For some reason I thought you and the boat were already in Mexico.
When are you hitting the LA area?
As you know, the Pacific is cold. Along the coast of California and usually a few miles inland it is usually cold (to me) and foggy. Drive an hour inland and you can find 100 degrees. The beaches sometimes are only the 70’s. August you can expect sunny beach days once you get to southern CA.

I'll be passing through the LA area maybe week after next.
I'll be hanging out in Santa Barbara visiting my mom for a few days before continuing south to Ensenada

California has the inland valley (and desert further south) that creates a thermal low inland. The air flows from the cold Pacific high to this hot valley low for most of the summer. In October /November the valley cools and this flow of air stops and places along the coast (like San Francisco) finally get sunny and warm up. That is the best time to visit.

Ahhh I am thinking that I'll see a bit less fog now that I'm past San Francisco?

I do not remember it being foggy in Santa Barbara as a kid.

LAX is partly cloudy, 25C for the next 10 days. Fog /low clouds in the morning, burns off during the day, comes back late afternoon / evening. Somewhat like Seattle most of the summer except now...

I am stuck in Anchorage with a broken plane. Last 5 hotel rooms in town were $600 each at a place around the corner from West Marine and the Costco. Crazy.

For that kind of money I can stay up all night quite well, then go “check out” a hotel room to take a S&S, then nap all day behind a box at the Costco.

At 1300 the first hotel had to kick us out as they were full for the next night, so we another hotel was found, at $500/night/room where we stayed until 1800. Plane was supposedly fixed, so away we went.

This morning I am sitting on my boat in Monterey California feeling pretty darn good about life. I have come a long way, all by myself and have seern a lot of things along the way.
Today I am going to visit the Monterey Aquarium arguably one of the best in the country, as well as visit some historic sites around Monterey.

This morning I am leaving the beautiful city of Monterey California, and am making way for Morro Bay.

The weather could not be better. No wind, meaning no wind waves to deal with.

Todays journey is a bit over 100NM which makes it a 12 hour day at 8.5 knots.

Like normal for me I am leaving port at first light.
