Check list - Motor is out...-gctid358443

Hey - just wanted to ask a quick question or two...

I pulled my motor to do some repairs. While it is out, any suggestions or things to do? Specifically the PDS bearing and seals. I replaced them less than 6 months ago but should I verify there is no water in there? What is the easiest way to do so? Last time I had to drill a hole in the motor compartment side seal to get it out... Don't really want to do that again but I will if I need to. I can always get another seal I guess...

    What else?

I'm replacing the bilge pump with a larger one (1,000 GPH)... Cleaning the motor compartment...

    ??

    Thanks!

Transom, transom, transom! From what I recall, you bought this boat fairly recently. If you haven't verified the condition of the transom, now is the time to do it and make the necessary repairs.

Craig, do you suspect that water found it's way into the PDS cavity?

If so, perhaps pump new grease into it while turning the shaft.

The grease feeds in to the cavity more so towards the FWD bearing, and then travels rearward to/through the AFT bearing.

See what the grease looks like when it comes out the AFT end.

I have no reason to think water found it's way into the PDS area but since tha motor is out, maybe it's a good time to look. I have a small hole in the aft seal, remember?, so I'll pimp some grease in there while turning the shaft to see what it looks like. As for the transom, I addressed that a few months ago.

              Anything else?

Would like to get a new fuel filter / water separator system if anyone has one that would function well in my V/p Bayliner...

              Thanks!
