Guest repliedAnd it really is not an "O" ring per say - it is a flat rubber washer about 1/8" thick that fits into the flat machined "groove" of the lower unit.

i have a merc cruser 5.7 tryed my hand at installing a new pump on drive everything looked good till i tryed to pump in drive oil. wont come out top port seeps out small holes by fins, any suggestions would be helpful thank you pat newbie.
