i have a merc cruser 5.7 tryed my hand at installing a new pump on drive everything looked good till i tryed to pump in drive oil. wont come out top port seeps out small holes by fins, any suggestions would be helpful thank you pat newbie.

Sounds like you didn't replace or get in the right place some orings that go between the two halves.
You might het a better response id you put more of the question or a topic in the title.

A title like "problem" is rather vague.
If this is an A drive, I'll agree with Dave.
There will be an O-ring seal that installs in a small groove in the oil passage that leads from the lower unit to the upper unit.
When this area leaks, you may see oil where you are describing it.

And it really is not an "O" ring per say - it is a flat rubber washer about 1/8" thick that fits into the flat machined "groove" of the lower unit.
