  • Low Cost Risers and Manifolds - Has Anyone Purchased from Moore Performance?-gctid355215

I am about to purchase new Risers and Manifolds for my 1989 2955 Avanti with twin 350 OMC Cobra's.

I have found this seller on ebay and can even pick the parts up locally and save a ton on shipping.

The price is easily 75% of what my mechanic can get the parts for.

Has anyone ever purchased from Moore Performance?

I am a little wary that such a good price would not have some caveat, i.e. poor quality castings,

terrible iron with tons of junk in it etc.

If anyone has ordered from this guy and the parts are of good quality, then I will feel a whole

    lot better.

    Thanks in advance

    Leon

I understand that they are GLM, Google reviews, there are some disgruntled buyers on the iboats forum for what its worth, many complain that the machining is poor and they have had leaks from the mounting faces and get them checked and machined before fitting

I am looking at PPT and will probably go with them I read somewhere that PPT stemmed from the R&D department of mercruiser, not sure how true that is tho.

Buy Mercruiser 4.3L V6 Coated Cast Iron Exhaust Manifold & Riser Kit w/ 3" Spacers (#EK-MERC-43L-C-3S) from PerfProTech.com. Exhaust kit for a Mercruiser 4.3L Engine

I have purchased several sets of manifolds from dennis. His service is good I have never had any problems with his products. As with any thing a good inspection should be done before installation.

If there is some thing wrong.with them I am sure Dennis would stand behind what he sells.

I put his Aluminum manifolds on in 07 when I rebuild my engine, they have been great and what I like the best is the weight change, so much lighter than the old cast iron type. I have closed cooling so know corroesion problem and we boat only is salt water.

I have read several complaints about GLM. I believe they come from China. I just bought a new set of manifolds & Risers. I went with Barr brand Made in the USA. I paid $710.00 for my set including shipping. 1989 cobra 350.

After I removed the old risers, I was surprised how plugged up the 4 outside passage ways were plugged up.

The picture from the Moorepreformance link, clearly shows these are GLM manifolds.

Yes, I was looking at these Aluminum Manifolds and Risers but my configuration requires a 3 inch spacer, Dennis says GLM don't make this spacer in Ali' only in Cast Iron which was a bit dissapointing, then I started reading the poor GLM reviews which put me off.

PPT do my config in Ali but +- $980 v $620 for coated cast iron, is Ali and the weight saving worth the extra $360???

Dennis Moore is a well known authority on the SBC and BBC performance marine engines, and I hate like h_ll to suggest anything against him or his business. However, GLM manifolds have posed some issues as of the last several years. One issue in particular was posted here on our BOC forum.

GLM apparently and eventually stepped up to the plate if I recall, but who wants to go throught that?

I also just spoke with a man yesterday who owns a repair biz on the east coast. He also has had trouble with GLM and is currently repairing engine damage from a bad GLM manifold. What a shame!

I have use GLM over the years and have not had any trouble. But this has been quite a few years ago.
