  • V/P 280 DRIVE ON A 5.7 LITRE AQ260A drain plug seal??-gctid354347

While changing the the oil in the drive i noticed the gasket around the drain plug is a flat fibre type washer, I ordered new seals from doug russell marine and they are a oring type seal, the same seal fits the drain plug and the quick fill bolt on the top of the transmission acording to the parts schematic and doug russell, Would the fibre type wahser be something someone used inn place of the oring, your thoughts please

    Thanks in Advance

The fiber washers were used on the early AQ series drives.

Your 280 requires the O-ring at both the drain plug and the dip stick (same p/n).

Not sure what you are calling the "quick fill" bolt! Are you talking about the "hollow" bolt?

The hollow bolt O-ring is unique to that bolt shoulder. Do not substitute!

The 280 fill port is at the 1:00/2:00 O'clock position just above the shift mechanism.

If your drive is a 280 or later, it will have this fill port.

This plug requires a red phenolic gasket.... not an O-ring.

Be sure to install the drain plug with a hand held impact tool.

Just several mild blows will set the tightness.

Hand tight, and you risk this coming loose, IMO.

2.... Sorry...... not following you on this one.

3... Any drive earlier than the 280 will not have this.
