    24(39) bayliner 2452 steering question-gctid354152

If anybody is familiar with the 2452, please advise me what the turn knob directly below the steering wheel does. When I turn it clockwise, it tightens the steering wheel and the reverse loosens it. Is it a locking device, or an override on the power steering for better control? My service manual doesn't mention it, and I don't have an owners manual.

    Thanks,

    Tom W. Hart

It's there to lock the wheel so you can go take a leak and get a beer without stopping. I'm afraid to use it but out in open water someone could. I could imagin a boat arriving at Catalina Island without a captain.

C'mon guys,He's a newbie and isn't use to us yet.

Its a friction adjustment to make the wheel easier or more rigid. Its there for the prop torque trying to move the drive, and increased friction makes it more stable
