    2359 scupper-gctid354017

Am in the process of (trying to) solve the apparently widespread 2359 problem of filling up the stbd fish holding whatchamacallit with rainwater.Drilled stbd corner of drain trough around fish(locker?) and installed a drain. Now to connect that to existing scupper system with a tee.. Rotton location ,put it off for months. Boat is in water 24/7 so its annoying, every time it rains boat takes on a decided list.Yest decided to take another look at how to plumb this all up. Hey its not that bad, can get at clamps on either end of hose that coonects deck drain to thru hull, warmed up hose with heat gun,off came hose. But....In the middle of hose is a one way scupper valve, black plastic thing, sorry no pics at this time. Anyhow the one way black plast. thing was broken right in two.Good potential to sink boat!as when fish locker is full of water (every time it rains remember)the thru hull is below sea level.Anyhow Ive got (4) new better scupper one way valve things coming and will see how my mod works out. I knew when I got the boat used last year that the fish locker fillup was an issue but knew I could either live with or conquer the proiblem. Never dawned on me till yest I could actually lose the boat because of it.Lesso reinforced:dont take any thru hulls at or near water line for granted!

What year is your 2359? I've read that some of the newer trophy's have a seal around the fish box with a lid that latches. I have a 2005 and have put my own rubber seal around the fish boxes and the ping pong ball scupper valves. The seal works ok, walmart silicon weather strip, and the scupper valves work great. No more water coming back through the scuppers when the fish boxes are full. Doesn't the boat have 5 scupper valves? I've been back there in my boat as well checking all the through hulls, hoses and clamps. I put on nitrile gloves and that helps with all the scratches from sharp fiberglass and such while allowing me some "feel" when I can't see anything. Did you drill through the bottom of the drain area, towards the stern, and then try and connect to the hose? I've thought about it but didn't want to put anymore holes in the boat. Hope it all works for you.

Hi sbengston.Mine is a 2002 so same I think.I considered the hatch seal but didnt actually try it for some reason.Yes there are 5 scuppers one is for hatch above batteries right? I dealt with that one last fall with good success. It was overflowing the drain trough and dripping onto batts.Drilled stbd corner and installed 3/4 fitting/elbow,hose to a tee in the 3/4 inch drain hose from port corner. Solved problem 100 %.Hoping to achieve same with fish well.Did you put in 1.5 inch ping pong scuppers with hose attach fittings?Ive got some in line scupper valves coming, am having second thoughts about whether to go that route or not.

Yes, I went with the 1.5 inch scuppers that just attached on the outside where the old perco flap was. They screwed right into the exsisting holes and such without any modification. They work great! I do not have any inline scuppers. That sounds like a good way to take care of the hatch above the batteries. I also have had water drip onto the batteries. I'm in the ocean a lot and have had water coming in through the stern door to my 3/4 swim step. Just put some of the same weatherstrip on it and prevents water from coming through bottom of door with waves and such. This has also kept water out of the starboard fish box. I have put a bait tank on the swim step and with a kicker motor it sets the stern a little deeper in the water.

Since we're talking 2359's I was just trying to figure out why I would see some water on top of the fuel tank, below the sink and under the access hatch . It turns out that the top of my bait tank wasn't sealed with anything and two screws weren't biting into anything. So, when the tank would fill up and slosh or overflow the water would leak down from the top of the bait tank onto the top of the fuel tank and that is also right next to the circuit breakers and now I know how they got some salt water on them. Siliconed the top and repositioned two screws and now no leaking.

One other thing that has been wonderful on the ocean is putting a couple of pieces of shelf liner on the seats. Now I don't slide around on the captain's seat and the passengers aren't thrown around. The walmart rv section has cheap stuff and I even use it on the engine hatch and stuff won't slide around on it, like ice chests and such.

I've read that people buy rubber seal material from Taco for the hatches.. Other people put a bilge type pump in the bottom of the fish box. This give you good access to the pump for cleaning.

I tried using the duck bill thru hull scupper and can report that they were a failure. You can't remove the duck bill to clean them, so they load up with material. Also, deck water didn't drain through the duck bill very well. I threw them out and have put on Rabuds. They have the round ball inside. GIve the housing a twist and you can clean it out.

Hmmm a bilge pump, why did I not consider that before, one of those self contained switch and pump units would do very well. Think Ill try my tee drain now Ive got all the crap but thanks for a good idea. (Not having to deal with the rather awkwaardly located in line Johnson pump currently serving the fish well would be a bonus too.)

Quote-Since we're talking 2359's I was just trying to figure out why I would see some water on top of the fuel tank, below the sink and under the access hatch . Siliconed the top and repositioned two screws and now no leaking - end quote ( I'd do that properly if I knew how to)

I found the recessed deck plate outside cabin door was also a source for water on the tank as well as a split in the yellow inlet connection at bottom of the bait tank. I found a SS replacement for that. It was fractured from installation or use.

Both breaker panels and the MBSS in our Pro are no longer in the splash zone of the leaky bait tank and rim. That was also fastened properly and sealed. I repositioned the electrical panels slightly on a newly built backing panel and then built a skinny frame around edge of each panel and covered that with thin plexi. Left the bottom open for wire routing. I did have to enlarge the opening slightly.

I've tried the white rubber seals from wallymart and they worked about 95% - but a 5% leak sucks in rainy season. The seal moves everytime you step or kneel near it. The adhesive isn't that good.

I'm still looking to find a more suitable seal for the fish lockers and battery hatch - if anyone knows please share. I can't seem to google up any good seal material suitable for that job.

The breaker panels got a piece of heavy plastic stuffed through the top of the panel and hang over the circuit breakers to prevent water intrusion. I had to reseal the drain from the bottom of the bait tank since the screw was loose on that part and used new 5200.

I hear you on the walmart stuff. There hasn't been anything else that I've found yet. Been looking at auto parts stores. If I find something that works better I'll post.

I used the self adhesive "D" shaped rubber weatherstrip to seal the fish boxes on my old '02 2359- got it from Fisheries Supply. Worked great.
