    prop removal tool-gctid353833

I need to know which proop removal tool to purchase to remove the props from a 290 duoprop. I'm pretty sure it's an early one, the upper and lower units look very nearly exact as my 1979 VP280 outdrive. I'm looking to swap the lower unit if I can figure it all out, but need to find out what the gear ratio is on the duoprop I have (got it cheap)...and to do that I need to get the props off. I've heard it can be a real B---- to get them off and because they are in really good shape I hate to destroy them. Any tricks anyone is aware of might come in pretty handy.

Thanks for any help. I have attached a photo of a tool I'm looking at on Ebay. Would this be correct?

That is the VP tool for the older series DP's. However, I use a socket and a large pair of water pump pliers and they work just as well.

.... and here's the logic behind that!

The tool is nice...... and it will do the job! However, the prop tool has one purpose ONLY, takes up space, and weighs something.

If you do like Tony, you'll have a tool O/B that serves a multi purpose. Basically... a good channel lock pliers (be careful with the chrome plating) and socket set does the trick and has other uses.

I'd save my money, space and weight!
