    Drain plug for 2006 3.0 4 cyl engine(39)s carb-gctid352905

    Hello!

Have three outboards. great! bought 2006 mint 175 bayliner for granson. How do I drain gas from carb? Called Mercury they didn't have details on carb 2bbl. Carb has rounded drain plug with some hole (can see under carb) [allen?]. First mercury said flat head screwdrive! no good!

Then use socket no ratch! no good. Don't want to damage brass plug, can see threads on it, but don't know what tool to take off with. Mercury finally admitted that some carb have no drain plug. Bad gas will gum up carb. I always drain gas! Can pay to have gas shut off installed and run dry, but that will cost $100. What is the simple solution. Have stabalized gas, run10 min. dont trust this method.

Mercury final suggestion was that the dealer has special tank mixture to run thru carb to winterize. I am in Florida, problem is storage over 2 months w/o running engine!

    Welcome aboard !

You can disconnect the hose before the fuel pump and run the carb dry. You need to put water to the drive. You will need to plug the hose or pinch the hose.

Do you run the carb dry on your outboards you should.

By the way 2 months with fuel in the bowl is nothing.
Be good, be happy, for tomorrow is promised to no man !

Thank for quick reply on how to drain old gas for carb. Went to dealer and he said the same thing. Except in the lower part of the resevor some one, looks like Mercury , since drain screw look round with small hole for allen maybe an original paint. Can figure out how to remove

(tool). Mercury dealer with 30 years experience say 3.0 carb new had or will have drain screw like and ourboard. He showed me a carb, no screw like mine. He stated someone must have fixed the float inside and drilled the hole and then cap it with a non removable screw. Original owner says never had repaired.

I don't see a reason to be so concerned about draining the carburetor.

I've been leaving my boat on the trailer for up to 6 months each summer for the last 5 years and it starts up right away and runs fine when I get back home.

I fill up after each outing, and use Startron (just in case). It may take a couple of 15 second cranks to get fuel back to the carburetor, but other than that you'd never know it had sitting for so long.

Your looking at a mc-carb. There is one adjustment screw. The other hole is fixed with a non removable plug if you have the other hole. That hole would have had another adjustment screw.

Carbs and carb rebuilding is a lost art really.

The mc-carb is a copy of the Rochester. The Rochester on my boat has 2 adjustment screws.

There is no bottom drain plug on a mc-carb or a Rochester, please believe me.

I have a 70 hp 1976 Evinrude if you saw the motor with the cowl off you would think you were looking at a brand new motor.

I remove the fuel hose from the motor put water to the lower end with mickey ears and with the drive fully down on a trailer start the motor after every use and let the carbs run dry. Now i can store the motor for a day a years or many years.

With your grandsons boats if in cold weather you need to drain the manifold and the block. Put the drive fully down and your done. After running the carb dry.

By the way i also run the carb dry every time after use with regards to all my small engine -ie. lawnmowers and such.
