Replacement air conditioner

New to the site and new to our 1986 4550.
we need to replace the pilot house a/c . It is a marine air c12h-re .
the only units I can find are all in one units. Ours has a compressor in the engine room and evaporator in the pilot house.
has any one retrofitted this or is there a replacement compressor available.

Have you called MarineAire and talked to them yet?

I did email them but nothing back yet.
I didn’t see anything on their site that was a just a replacement compressor with the evaporator in a separate area.

Wabasto has those type units.

Might also consider CTM. They appear to have engineered their system to be compatible with most other manufactures so it is possible one of their split systems could get you up and running at a much lower cost. I have no connection with CTM and do not currently own one of their products so I cannot tell you how long their equipment will last but I am in the process of swapping out a Marine Air unit for a CTM unit.

May I ask how you did the exchange and install and still preserve the coolant gas from escaping? I have an older Marine Aire system and would like to replace the compressor side only. I believe only the switch solenoid between heat/cool has failed.
