    Trim limit switch wire cut-gctid352005

    Hi

Working on replacing my Gimbal area and when removing my trim switches i found that the one of the wires had been cut. The wires from the Port trim limit switch has two wires with male ends which join two wires one with blue and white and the other purple and white, the blue and white heads to the trim pump but the purple and white that heads forward with the loom has been cut at some time. Anyone know what the wire does and any reason why it has beeen cut.

Also found that the end of the shift bellows had no clip on it !!

    Any help appreciated.

The trim limit switch limits the range of motion in the up direction of your outdrive. Sounds like the wire that was cut goes to the up switch on your throttle control or dash. Don't know why it was cut.

Those go to the little sensor on the outdrive pivot that senses how high your outdrive is. It only lets it go to a certain height to prevent you from running the boat with the outdrive at too high of an angle causisng excessive wear to the u-joints.

If the sensor or wires fail, which is very common, the outdrive trim switch stops working.

An easy fix is to cut the wires and jump them together. Then it all works again minus the "safety" feature of limiting how high your outdrive will go.
