Idle Air Control Valve......on engines that have FI and a mechanical main throttle valve, the IAC allows just a little air to enter the engine so it can idle. The computer can manipulate it as needed based on engine temp, etc.

Many cars have one too......….but now the latest way to control throttle is to use Electronic Throttle Control which now covers the complete range from zero percent to 100 percent throttle.

All of this has roots in keeping emissions low at all engine RPM's......and since cars/trucks have it, it is easiest to just carry it over in marine applications.

The Idle Air Control valve. It sits just back of the flame arrestor under the plastic engine cover. One electrical connector and 2 hex bolts. At startup it opens to allow more air into the engine for cold start like a choke on a carbureted engine. Apparently they fail quite a bit on the 350MAG. Pushing the throttle button in and artificially opening the butterfly in the intake accomplishes pretty much the same thing.

        Yo Gsherwood,
        I didn't dare ask.
Looked it up: Idle Air Control.
Remember the days we did not have computers nor cell phones.
        Cheers,

So much to do down there. We visit several times a year....often Sept to May.
It is tough sometimes to divide our time between Disney and Boating!
