94 bravo 2 454 seawater pump weep hole

I noticed water leaking from the pump after coming gack from catalina monday, couldnt tell where it was coming from except it was from the front and not the impeller housing, pulled it and it looks like it had a weep hole like an engine circulating pump, has anyone rebuilt that part? I ordered a complete new pump but wouldnt mind a spare

These belt driven seawater pumps have their share of issues, and replacements are expensive.

    Consider doing this:

The front seal is leaking, the pump can be rebuilt. What Rick mentioned is a very nice alternative if you have the room in front of the engine. It eliminates the need to remove the pump to replace the impeller and is direct driven by the crank so no concern of loosing cooling if the belt breaks. Although the mercruiser pump also has a long proven history and you won't need to the process of changing belt sizes and replumb the hoses to the pump. just bolt in the new one and go.

I have a water pump mounted fuel pump so unless i add an electric fuel pump i cant do that unfortunately.

All the more reason for getting away from that system!

Sounds like you already have a new Mercruiser pump on the way. Like Mike said the old one can have the seal replaced and be kept as a spare. Also agree with Ricks opinion of the pump. It works but a bit of a pain to get at for maintenance.

For this style there is a reservoir where the fuel pump attaches that must be filled with lubricant else the fuel pumps arm will prematurely wear.

Bounty I tossed around going the electric fuel pump route but i may be going out again next weekend so i wanted to make sure i got the pump installed asap., as far as oil in the fuel pump housing on the water pump, is it just regular engine oil? I figure the directions would specify but i can get it ahead of time

I don't recall what lube is recommended but I think it's engine oil 30 weight, so look it up in the mercruiser manual.

Double check this ...... I believe that it requires gear oil!

Looked in the Mercruiser manual and as the others have said fill with Quicksilver high performance gear lube, same as used in Mercruiser outdrive.

When or if you should become tired or frustrated with the belt driven Combo Pump woos, here is what you'd need to resolve the issue.
