how is davit mounted on 1986 4550 motor yacht bayliner-gctid417934

My friend has this boat and wonder how davit is mounted. Is it thru the ceiling?

    Thanks.

We love our 45 but the short answer to your question is that it is mounted very poorly!

Essentially- more or less hollow fiberglass box on the flybridge deck, thin threaded rod (3/8 I think??) mounted to flybridge deck/salon ceiling, and then the big steel plate that is mounted above the deck and thru bolted to deck. From what I can see the only "structural" strength of this set up is that big steel piece angled out from the base of the davit. It is nice not to have a pole going through the salon but it truly is a very weak design but works as long as dinghy is not too heavy. We just completely rebuilt ours- stronger than when new as we completely rebuilt the box and structurally filled it with custom fit coring that was then glassed in and regelcoated to match. It is rock solid now!
