    So for reference it turned out to be the gear shift cable, completely torn in two. Thankfully it wasn't anything to serious and thanks to everyone for their tips and support, always great to have people in the know to talk to.

      This was the lower shift cable or helm controle cable? Good to know it's just a cable and not something more spendy.

        Yes, was the lower cable that snapped. Had upper cable replaced as well as it was showing signs of wear. Managed to antifoul whilst boat was out as well as replacing anodes.
