Have you checked the bellows? The drive bellows and the shifter bellows will let water in if cracked. The exhaust bellows doesn't matter it should have a small drain hole in it anyway.
I will check this. Can I do it without removing the stern drive?

    Water in boat-gctid406540

This boat (previous thread Repowered UP) had been out of the water for 1-2 years before I put it back in the water two weeks ago.

When we slid the boat into the lake and tied up prior to getting underway, I opened the engine hatch to do an inspection as we were about to start the engine. I noticed that some water that contained vegetation and particles from the lake, had come into the boat. The bilge had been clean and dry and the drain plug at the stern was closed tight.

We started the engine and put the boat into a slip at the marina. The stern was facing the main body of the lake where jet skiers and water skiers were constantly passing by during the day. This made the stern bob up and down as the wakes passed by. We stayed at the slip overnight.

First thing in the morning and every two to three hours during the day, I would turn on the bilge pump and empty as much of the accumulated water as possible. It seemed to always be the same amount of water. Never enough to activate the float switch in the bilge.

After two days, we put the boat back on the trailer and parked on a slight uphill section. I opened the rear drain and emptied the contents of the bilge into a 5-gallon bucket. It was about one third to a half bucket of water.

How often do the seals and gaskets on this stern drive alpha 1 gen 2 need to be inspected and replaced? What are other possible sources for this water in the boat?
