Chief - Thank you so much for your help! If I can help you in any way, please let me know. I'm new to Bayliners and OMC, but I'm not too bad with Corvettes and Jeeps.

Alpha will not likely last anyway, they did not do well with big block engines. The easiest thing is to get the lower rebuilt. The KC 460 lower is hard to find because it is bigger and stronger than the standard V6 and small block V8 Cobra, which is good to 300 hp. The 460 is about 340 hp. Years ago Don S when he was on this site, put together a Volvo SX conversion article with pix, on a similar boat. It was more involved than the usual OMC Cobra to Volvo SX swap because of the need to add an engine driven water pump (Volvo style) on an engine that had never had one. But on the other hand it did not involve an engine pull because the Cobra inner and outer transom mount were still used. The article MIGHT be floating around iboats now.....

            GB your welcome !

We are contemplating buying a 4 door unlimited Wrangler to flat tow behind our MH .

My s-i-l says 2007-2011 has the bullet proof engine.

Currently have a 2 door Tracker automatic, 4 wheel drive, has the transfer case, flat towed behind the MH, 3 years now, bought a classier new MH now it seems we need a classier toad.

Ahh we are a Jeep family here. If you want a Wrangler, I'd go with the newer models with the 3.6 Pentastar and Mercedes 5 spd auto, or 6 speed manual. It has better power by far than the old 3.8. However, there were some problems with the first year or so, where they had replaced cyl heads on a good number of them. It depends on how much you want to spend. So 2014 and up let's say. We bought a '17 brand new for not that much more than people were asking for ones that were 5 years old, because we got the base model, 3.6 Wrangler Unlimited Sport with the 6 spd manual trans and manual windows and locks.

We love our JKU. We used it to tow a small camper for a year or so until we lost the camper in the hurricane. We replaced the camper with a much larger one so we're using a Durango to tow it. As for the JKU, no problems at all - we love it! We have the hard and soft tops for it. I don't know anything bad about the later ones. The earlier ones had a few issues, but they seem to get those resolved.

Nice! Would love to have an XJ, but I'd have to go out west to find a nice rust free one.

And at that the law of supply and demand has all but dried up the stock on this coast, a few rare virgin finds still surface now and then though.

Yep same here, only a few good ones left but of course they have not been built since 2001. I still enjoy driving our old '98 and have to do some rust repair to it this summer. While its 20 years old, it only has 176,000 on it.
