Stripped gear oil vent hole on an alpha 1 gen 1-gctid828356

So after replacing my impeller today and thinking I was done and ready to get it put back in the water it turns out the vent hole is stripped in my alpha 1 leg. I have a brass fitting that goes to an overflow reservoir in that hole so now I'm stuck as to how to fix it. Drilling, heli coil seems the most logical but can it be done without taking the bottom half off again? Or are there any other good repair options.

you can drill and tap using a vacuum cleaner to suck the chips away.... its best if there is another vent that can be opened to allow the most airflow OUT of the hole, but a successful job can be done without the need for another open vent....

also keep in mind that a couple small aluminum chips are unlikely to cause you any serious grief, which is unlike when you chip a gear or a bearing starts to degrade, where the hardened steel debris will play extreme havoc inside the gear case...
