    My Johnson doesn(39)t work-gctid828263

It's a 1999 90hp. It goes up and down but that's it. No clicks, buzzing, or any other sound when key goes in and is turned. No gages go on.

    Ignition fuse maybe?

    It's a Larson bowrider. :0

I needed a small boat with an outboard so I can safely beach it and run in shallow waters with motor tilted up. Plus, there really are no bayliners in SW Florida.

if tilt is working, you have power. If nothing happens when you turn the key, wiggle the shifter handle to make sure the engine is in neutral. When those control boxes start getting worn, sometimes even when they shift into neutral, the neutral safey switch is not disengaged so that the next time you try to start the engine, you get nothing. Wiggle the shifter handle and see if that makes the circuit. Could also be main ignition breaker or fuse if so equipped.

Certainly sounds like a power issue. You certainly aren't getting turned on.

Maybe just needs a little lubrication. I hear that helps with the older ones.

Not a title I would use here......

It does sound like a problem with the key switch not closing the circuit.

Unfortunately I didn't have time to diagnose anything. I only had time to try it, then disconnect battery and throw the cover on her till I get back down there in December. Hopefully it is just lack of power going to the ignition. This is my first two-stroke outboard. I haven't had a two stroke since my JetSki days back in the 90s.

Sounds like you need to manually manipulate the main ground .

Me I would try putting power straight to the starter for that one glories moment to see if the engine at least cranks.
