  • Need help with Alpha One Outdrive-gctid828241

    Hey Guys,

So, I've got lower unit grease leaking from this hole on my outdrive (see attached pic). Can anyone tell me what that hole is, and why it might be leaking? It's got another hole identical to this one on the other side but it's not leaking, just the one on the right side. Both sides are tapered so my best guess is that it's an intake of some kind, but just wanted to get some opinions from some guys that know a little more about this stuff than I do. I'm pretty mechanically inclined, but this is my first boat and all I know about outdrives are what I've read on forums and what I've watched on YouTube videos, which makes me pretty dangerous LOL.

    Thanks in advance!

Welcome, please add some boat information and where you are as it helps us guide you to local resources.

How much is it leaking? Open the upper fill plug, unless you have the reservoir kit, to see if the drive is full of oil. If you have the kit, are you loosing oil?

If it's the end of the season for you or time for servicing the drive, about 50 hours without the kit, 100 hours with it, you are going to want to lube the ujoints, gimbal bearing and probably change out the raw water pump. To do all of that, the drive comes off then the upper and lower housings are separated to access the water pump. Between the sections is an o-ring that may be missing or out of place allowing seeping. I used contact cement or the merc glue to hold the o-rings, there are others, in place during assembly.

When you get into it, feel free to pm me.

You have an Alpha one Gen two, that hole is a drain for the raw water pump intake. If gear lube is coming out you have a seal leaking. Could be on the raw water pump or the shift shaft seal
