Top speed of a 1992 with the mercruiser 4cyl?-gctid399914

Can anyone tell me the top speed of a 1992 bayliner classic 1952? (small cuddy)

it has the 470 mercruiser I/O & matching outdrive.

    it is 18.8 feet long.

    best estimate is fine.

as what I can find is saying anywhere from 20 - 28 knots, is this correct?

as always any/all assistance is greatly appreciated.

I get about 38-40 mph by speedometer on my 1952 with the smaller 3.0 liter four, with about 3/4 of a full load at 5000 ft elevation. I haven't checked that with GPS yet, so perhaps take it with a grain of salt. I'd guess you should be able to hit 35 mph (30 kts) with any luck.

thank you both for the info!! will have to check it with the GPS on flat seas and WOT :arr

this gives me a good place to start / know what to expect so I dont launch my arse off the boat going WOT LOL

is it worth it to go to the stainless steel prop?

I got 39.8 mph on my 1993 1952 with Mercruiser 3.0 4cyl. (1-2 people, no bimini, sea level)

And cruising at 28 to 32 mph I would get about 4.5 mpg.

Very good little, fuel efficient boats.

          I miss that economy.

          My 2252 with 5.7 v8 gets 1.5 mpg.

And on the stainless prop, I would say no.

They are pretty and sexy when they are polished and flex less, so I think they would be best suited for high horsepower speed boats where you don't want to lose a mph or two due to prop flex.

Also, if you hit something with a stainless prop, it is much stronger than an aluminum one, so it is less likely to flex, bend, or break when trying to absorb/deflect the impact.

That is not a good thing because then something else in your drivetrain will have to absorb that impact/force.

And that would be your outdrive.

Outdrives cost $1600 and up (aftermarket SEI) and cost at least $600 to be installed.

I am going from a 1952 to a 2455 and I too will miss the fuel economy, but will like the extra room! I am hoping it's a good trade off lol

took out the little 1952 bayliner classic today on the river to give her a good test run, 4 of us in the boat, estimated weight of people and stuff about 1000 pounds and we got the boat up to 30 mph by the gps. great fun!

                    I have a 1992 Bayliner 1851CB cuddy

I have a 185HP 3.8L V6 in it which has the same power as the HO 470 with the 4 barrel.

I can hit 47 mph with an aluminum prop, and 50mph with a stainless, but thats with 1 or 2 adults -

have never hauled 4 adults + 1000 pounds of gear.

sorry, not 4 adults and 1000 pounds of gear, 4 adults + gear total for everything about 1000 pounds.
