On my 4788 w/330's I'm having an issue with enough voltage to activate the glow plug on the port engine. The battery is new. If I turn the battery charger on for a couple minutes the glow plug lights right up. Doesn't seem to be an issue with the starboard engine. It's been this way for a long time. Any suggestions?

Could be a poor engine ground - temporarily jump the engine ground to the battery with jumper cables and see if the problem goes away. If it does you know you are looking for a poor ground connection and/or cable.

Brokership, I guess you're talking about the "Pre Heat" light on the dash next to the ignition key. There aren't any glow plugs on my Cummins 6Bta5.9. But Smittys advice is on the money. See if that works.

I'm guessing your seeing a harder start of the port engine vs starboard or you're seeing more smoke from port once they're both started?

Both are symptoms of relays (qty 2) that are upstream of the preheaters, which if one or the other or both are bad then your preheater will not operate correctly.

For the port engine, they are easy to reach and test if they are bad and/or replace. Not so easy with Starboard.

Check ground wires as Smitty suggested. It was an issue on our 4087, similar to yours .
