So during this winters overhaul i want to try and sound proof my gen set down in the bilge. Id like to box it off completely. The only concern i can think of is overheating, but with it being liquid cooled idk if thats a factor or not.

What do you guys think, ever come across any genius ingenuity? Just a bit loud in the cabin

Our 4087 has a metal box with foam on the inside which completely cover the genny. I assume it was a westerbeke factory installation?

If it were my boat I think I'd just build a well planned, resin coated and painted marine plywood box lined with sound deadening material from Sound Technology. soundtechco.com They have a variety of materials to choose from.

I didn't even resin coat it - just a sheet of 1/2" MDO and gray paint. 1.5" thick foam. It made a big improvement. I think I might do a gensep and kill the exhaust noise too.

Few bungee cords and posts to hold it together and easy to get in to check fluids

Yes all good ideas. But no reports of overheating?

As far as exhaust i guess not all have them but mine has a "water can" muffler im calling it. The exhaust is very quiet.
