trying to replace packing in stuffing box? while backing out stuffing box it hits transmission coupler key and does not allow me to get in box to pull any stuffing ??for some reason the other engine has more of shaft showing then the one I'm trying to replace? Any help would be great Thanks Bobby

Your options are either removing the shaft coupling or cutting the hose back. Can you post a picture? Either one the boat should be on the hard.

I've done it in the water. Took some nerve though.

Thanks Diveguy I will try to cut hose back 1/2 inch or somehow slide box back towards stern to allow some extra room I need?
