    Hand rail help on 2859-gctid822027

I would like to change out the old stanchions on the topside handrail. See photo. I can get to the rear nuts through the monkey fir, but there appears to be no access to the forward 2. The headliner (not monkey fir) is sealed outside and above the windows. Are the screws by change self taping and do not have back up nuts. Does anyone have any experience with this issue?

This may sound simplistic... are you sure the forward two are actually bolted rather than screws? Probably the rail was installed before the deck was set on the hull, but maybe not

Thanks for your message. Before I broke the 25 year old seal by putting a screwdriver to them I wanted to check out any experiences.

Simplest way is to back them out if possible and if not, drill the headsoff the few you cant. Then you could move them ever so slightly and use self tapping screws or riv-nuts there.

Coming in late on this, but my hunch screws in to backing blocks.
