    3255 Avanti Lever Control-gctid821703

    Hello All,

I have just purchased an 1989 3255 Avanti, is it possible to change from the installed two control lever to a classic four lever engine control, any help in this matter would be very much appreciated.

    Best Regards

    Tj.

Welcome! First, the standard request: please add your boat information and where you live/boat to your signature. It's part of you profile.

As to changing from two "single levers" to a traditional two lever shifter on one and throttle on the other, it may be relatively easy or next to tearing your hair out. First, are your single levers electric connected to slaves at the engines? In this case you are in for the controls plus cables at, for estimating purposes, $50-60 each. You may be able to sell the electric kit and recover a good share of that cost but running the cables can be a pain. Then there in the mounting hole. Are there places to mount the controls?

If they are cables, it's probably just a case of connecting the cables to the appropriate levers and adjusting. If this is the case, I may be interested in your "singles".

Avanti went with single levers because there simply isn't enough room on the dash...

      Do you have enough room?

Id be interested in seeing this as well. I recently purchased a 1987 Avanti 3255 and there is no way I could mount that set up on my dash. I feel, just by watching everyone elses videos that the separate controls set up would be more practical, but like I said, I just dont see where there would be room.

          Hello JJ,

I just took my Avanti out of the water (dry dock for the winter) yesterday and my mechanic has said that it could be done obviously at a cost, so we will be looking into that between now and spring, if and when we start i will take progress pics and keep you up to date.

          Chhers

This is not my helm but similar this was our thoughts, the only issue would be the control housing length

That makes sense! I'm definitely interested in seeing the outcome here! I didn't even consider a dual control setup. I was thinking the four in one. I wonder how the rigging is accomplished with two control beads versus two?
