    Winterizing 4.5L 200-gctid821037

    Hello. I'm a new member and searched for this question on the forum but didn't find my particular concern. After 32 years with an old inboard we finally decided to upgrade to a new VR5. I've always done my own winterizing and was very happy with the single point drain system on the new Merc. Since this new motor is EFI it doesn't get fogging oil. In the manual it states to hook up an external tank with a special fuel mixture to the "fuel inlet fitting." Where is this fitting? The manual doesn't show any diagrams to support this part of the process. Thanks for any input and advice.

    2..... that is correct! Fuel Injection systems are NOT Fogged in the conventional fashion.

    This is because the fogging oil may inadvertently enter and affect the FI air sensors.

    In lieu of Fogging, an oil enriched fuel mixture is introduced into the fuel system. This mixture can be introduced via the fuel filter cartridge.

    See your OEM service manual for instructions.

    The draw-back is..... when we cut the ignition in a FI engine, we also cut the fuel supply simultaneously and prior to the rotating assembly coming to rest.

    Whereas with true Engine Fogging, it is done by introducing a special protective oil mixture into the intake system (engine operating).

    While @ 1,200 rpm when the ignition is cut, the fogging procedure is continued until the rotating assembly comes to rest.

    All cylinder related areas become protected.

    If anything, do a quick "dry start" at the very end of your procedure. This will allow the exhaust to blow any residual water out.

      YUP need to mix some special cocktail, connect remote outboard fuel tank to the inlet of the Water

      Separating Fuel Filter, run it for 10-15 mins.

        Is there any hidden drain plugs, on the 4.5 engine for winterization?

          Blue drain plugs on the distribution housing, raw water pump housing...

            Can I add another question to this??

            On the older style 3.0 or 4.3 engine, it was real easy to pour antifreeze into the hoses where they collected at the thermostat housing.. On this new 4.5, there are so many hoses, I don't even know where they all go. No such thing as an easy spot to fill hoses. I'm a fan of the manual pour method, so any ideas?
