Mercruiser Swivel Pin Seal Is Leaking-gctid820659

My outdrive is experiencing what I think is the inevitable leaking swivel pin seal. I've read about the JR Marine fix and had a chance to talk with the shop mechanic that I trust about it. He's suggesting replacing the transom assembly instead. He points to less labor costs plus newer components vs JR's more labor costs plus just replacing the swivel pin method.

    What have others done?

anything wrong with your transom assembly?

since I posted doing it in JR/ RR way, we've had many members following.

Doing it the easy way, it can be accomplished less than a couple of hours.

how long does he think he can pull the engine to replace both shields with a new pin in it?

Yea, sounds like someone wants to sell a complete transom assembly install. Based on that I'd look for a new mechanic.
