    2006 BAYLINER 245 Merc 5.0 / Problem. not getting power, feels constricted.-gctid820235

Hey guys, i bought a 2006 Bayliner with 5.0 Mercruiser engine, its carborated..has alpha drive.

    my issue is as follows:

-When driving the boat slow under 8knots it is fine and no issues, but then when getting on it, it just wont' plane, the engine sounds strange and constricted, and rpms don't go all way up so its not slipping..then it gets hot and i have to back off or shut off for a minute and it instantly cools back down under 175..i realize my risers/ manifolds are original and need to get done, but it doesn't seem like thats the power issue, as i stay on it, boat won't plane, sometimes does but still struggles, trim tabs work (indicator doesn't work)

i've had the the carb rebuilt i've had a tune up and that didn't help..what gives?? we checked for spun prop and mechanic said thats not the issue..outdrive shouldn't be the issue as RPMS' don't go all way up so its not like its slipping..i don't get it and mechanic can't confirm. I do have a big swim step with 2 chairs on it and a grill but that shouldn't be it..

nothing has been changed out. only work done to it as far as i know from previous owner is a new outdrive last year thats it. as for me i've rebuilt carb and got a tune up, and the mechanic that did that work was an idiot and said those would fix the issue and he was wrong, and also since he rebuilt carb boat smokes a bit..but thats another issue

You have to fix the overheat condition first.

Has it been in saltwater? Water intake in the leg restricted?

            Raw water cooled ?

Check the volume of the water entering the engine bay .

Remove off the t-stat the hose coming in from the transom, place in a bucket, with the drive submerged, start the engine, allow to run for 15 seconds quick shut down the engine.

Should be around 3-4.5 quarts in the bucket depending on the drive ratio, this is for the alpha 1 gen 2 drive.

Post back after preforming the test.

            We will go from there.
