    Generator Location on a 1989 2655 Sunbridge-gctid398916

I have a 1989 2655 Sunbridge and want to install a remotely started generator. I seem to have plenty of space in the engine bay to put a generator.

    1. Is this a safe place to install a generator?

    A. If so how do i vent the exhaust?

    B. How do I deal with gas fumes in the bay? Build a in-closed box with intake and exhaust vents or would running the blower work?

    2. What make/model would work? I am looking for around 2000w-3000w range.

what kind of generator are you trying to install?

A regular marine generator will mix water with the exhaust and send it out the side along with having the ability to wire in remote start and remote control of the blowers. Gas fumes wont be an issue since it would run off your gas tank already installed in your boat. Be ready to dump several thousands into this, the gen was 3kw I was looking at around 7k just for the generator not installed.

If your thinking of installing an air cooled honda in the engine bay and run it, dont that is what we call "really bad". mk.. Those are not built for or safe in any way for that operation.

I'd use the Kipor or the Yamaha!

Seriously, Ryan is asking you a very serious question.

If this is to be installed permanently within an engine bay, it MUST be a Marine Generator set up with wet exhaust, and with all of the amenities that go along with that.

Westerbeke offers a small Marine Generator that seems to fit the bill for many of our smaller boats.

I won't post the price as I don't know if you are standing or sitting.

oh by all means it will be a marine with wet exhaust. It will be a permanent installation. I live in Georgia and would like to run the A/C when moored in a cove. i found a used onan on ebay for $650 for a 6.5kw. sound like a decent price.

6.5 kw is much too large for your application.

Plus......., unless you know exactly what you are getting into, I'd steer clear of the older used Onans.

While the initial price may be very attractive, you'll pay dearly later on.

For a few more hundred you can get a new Honda 2000.
