    Tach jumping 400-600 rpm on 5.7 merc-gctid818005

Hello I have the 5.7 2 brl carb enigine in my 2452. Recently my tach has been jumping up 400-600 rpm durning cruise. No change in engine sound or speed, I'm positive it just a tach issue. Pulling back to idle and tach will show the same 400-600 high. After a while it will settle down and read normal. Anyone experienced this? Any ideas? I'm leaning towards the gauge. Thanks

Mine was doing this. Just cleaned the wire connections and it's fine now.

look at the back of the tach " hey that rhymes " see a switch ?

Cycle that switch a few times back and forth, set it to the amount of cylinders you have.
Be good, be happy, for tomorrow is promised to no man !
