If yours is like mine there are two seals outside the outer prop shaft (that drives the forward propeller) that are the most likely suspects given where you see the leak. The seals are right next to each other. It's my understanding that one seal keeps the water out, and the other seal keeps the oil in (like they face different directions). I don't know if you can just pop the prop shafts out and replace the seals or not...
Mine was leaking and I had water in the out drive. When they took it apart they said the lower unit was in pretty bad shape, so I replaced it ($$ouch$$).
I can't find a reference to the seals in this manual (I found it in my Clymer's) but it might help and maybe I didn't look long enough:

I just now responded to your thread over at ME.com. I included an image of my puller tool that you may need.
A few things to add;
..... use only Volvo Penta OEM parts for this.
..... I would not use grease while installing the new seals. Instead, install them using Quicksilver "Perfect Seal".
..... I would also replace the eccentric piston seal and housing O-ring.
