    1983 Trophy 2260 Fisherman Repower: Volvo AQ131 to 225D-gctid817208

I am looking at picking up a donor 1985 Cierra 2450 Command Bridge to swap the engine/out drive over to my Trophy in order to up the power a bit from the measly 4 cylinder running gear. Is this engine going to be a handful?

I know propping the engine will take some experimenting, plan is to start with the factory 1985 Cierra prop and go from there to end up with a SS prop for longevity/efficiency. I believe all of the linkages should mate up properly (I haven't picked up the Command Bridge yet so I don't know what drive is on it) but I believe most of the AQ series engines share the same transom shield (correct?).

Thank you, have a great day.

After doing some reading it seems like the 2260 Fisherman is not a planing hull, just semi planning. Is that true? If so is a repower a waste of my money?

I know a semi-planing hull gets very squirrely at higher speeds.

That is correct it is not a planing hull. I do like the layout on the 2260. The planing hull version is the 2160/2460 which began production in the mid-eighties. Repowering just to get more horses might be unwise, but if the stock engine is on its last legs that's another story.

Thats what I thought. I am trying to get some more cruising speed/eco out of it but read if you go above 20knts they get unstable. If that is the case then I agree repowering is a waste. Was hoping to get 20-25knt cruise to make the trips in/out a little quicker.

Last year, my son sold their '86 2450 SDN F/B boat.

It was powered with the Ford 5.8L and Volvo Penta Duo Prop.

That little SDN F/B boat would scoot.

If you are interested in a smaller SDN F/B...... they are great boats, particularly with the Volvo Penta Duo Prop.

Perhaps this donor boat would be worth resurrecting!!!!

The donor boat isn't in terrible shape but and the price isn't terrible ($2000 on a trailer) but was mainly interested in the running gear. The 2260 fisherman floor plan is awesome for what I want to use it for and the 2450 SDN wouldn't be as advantageous for those uses.

I guess time to use this boat as a stepping stone or possibly restore the 2450. I have so little into my 2260 and I can just as easily remove the new electronics I just put on the vessel.
