Im replacing at my Volvo Penta 280 prop because last summer I hit an unmarked, submerged rock (just outside a marina where you'd expected it to be marked, sigh). When I was looking at the prop I noticed that one of the pieces under the prop was separated slightly from the lower housing (see pix). I assumed the rock knocked it loose or bent it, but when I took the prop off and pushed down on it, it actually popped back flat against the rest of the house, but there is still motion/play in the piece. It doesnt look bent, and the bolts holding it down dont appear damaged and are pretty tightly in. Im guessing I can apply some torque and get them down farther, but before I do I thought I would ask if there is SUPPOSED to be play/motion in this piece. That sounds stupid to me, but looking at the whole thing, I have to wonder why there are multiple pieces of metal there (the main body of the prop, one piece on top of that, and then the other top piece that goes directly under the prop (which in my case is moving).
Seems obvious that I should tighten it, but Im no expert and I have no other boat to compare with, and I dont want to go supertightening and/or stripping bolts if this thing is supposed to shift...
