1997 Bayliner Capri 2050 ss/5.7 mercruiser with thunderbolt v ignition

I recently installed a new shift interrupt switch. The engine will turn over, but not start. I unplugged the switch and the engine started. Is there something else I could check? I feel like something else is cutting power to the coil while the interrupt switch is plugged in. Thanks

Shift interrupt switch wires chaffed , shorting out or the switch could be sticking.
