    SBC Starter UPDATE-gctid816430

Good news is the starter was the issue and today will be our maiden voyage for 2017.

Some information so hopefully someone does not go thru what I did.

An 11 tooth starter is a perfectly safe substitute for a 9 tooth. In fact the 11 is probably better. The more teeth (in general) the more torque. After much research on-line the 11 tooth is considered the "heavy duty" starter and the 9 tooth is the "standard duty". I am 99% sure the 9 tooth was original to the engine so it did last for 19 years.

I spent countless hours and miles chasing down a 9 tooth starter.

Cone size, throw of the Bendix, rotation, and of course bolt pattern are the key components for a proper starter.

    Good for you Phil!

GM starter will just about fit all their engines,

9 or 11 any staggered mounting bolt pattern would work.

Get out there, don't miss out on the best weather we're having now.
