Pulled the heads off my 2859. Took them to the machine shop to have a look as I found a fair bit of valve leakage during a leak down test. The motor had approx 500hrs on it. The seats are pounded out and are junk.
I'm looking at replacing them for approx 1000 to 1200. Or buying a new set of aluminum 6045 edelbrock heads. I can get them for a pretty good deal. 2000 complete out the door.
So question to the pros out there. Anyone have any input on using aluminum heads on a heavier boat like the 2859? The motor has been rebuilt a few years ago and is a 496 now. Full fresh water cooled so no corrosion issues. Just wondering if anyone has had an issue with switching over to aluminum.
