Regarding the question of the cockpit cover bows - Something wasn't right as the cover sat too low. I have since discovered that there are "bow extensions". I procures one that raised the bow 7 inches. But I don't think that is the correct height - it still seems too low. If anyone has a 1988 (or so) 1750 with the complete cockpit cover, please send me the effective length of the extensions. In the meantime, I will have to guess and eyeball it.
