Greetings! I'm the original owner of a 1986 Capri Cuddy 1950, equipped with the Volvo Penta AQ131/275 engine/outdrive series. I'd estimate that the boat has at most, 300 hours of use over the past 30+ years and all that use was in fresh water mountain lakes, primarily Lake Tahoe CA. Consequently, it's in remarkably good condition with only negligible paint wear and essentially no corrosion. My question is concerning the servicing of the drive-line U-joint. I've had the boat serviced at various places over the years and have regularly lubed the various accessible Zerc fittings, but I'm quite certain that the U-joint has never received any service. There is currently no discernible noise, rumbling, etc., from the outdrive. Given the age of the boat however, should I pull the transmission and lube (or perhaps replace) the spider? I have the original Volvo Penta Owner's manual, but it has no mention of the recommended frequency of U-joint servicing. Thanks in advance for any knowledgeable advice.
