    omc outdrive oil fill problem-gctid815506

A friend just bought a 89 capri with a 3.0 omc cobra. like my 88. He went to change the oil in the drive, he drained it and can not get the vent plug out. So he filled it with one quart from the bottom and plugged it. Then put the rest in from the dipstick hole. I have always filled mine from the bottom and then from the vent and check the dip stick. Will this cause problems for him? If so what should he do?

    Thanks,

    Bob

Do not fill from the top. You will trap air and eat the upper gear set. He needs to get that upper plug out. Very important.

There is a plug you should never remove. Should be under a sticker don't touch it if in doubt ask for the free d/l manual.

The vent plug has to be removed you fill from the bottom drain plug till if overfills the vent, close the bottom drain and pump from the vent to the dipstick full line.

Again is he going after the right plug thinking its a vent.
