C0 Detectors on a 2006 289-gctid815263

On my last two cruises last season which lasted about maybe an hour to an hour and a half each the C0 detectors in the cabin went off.

All windows and hatches were closed.

On the first cruise I was able to go down below and open a few windows and reset the detectors and they went off but they came on again.

On the second cruise the same thing happened.

Fast forward to now and I asked my mechanic to check for exhaust leaks when he commissioned my engine.

I'm on the hard so he ran it on muffs.

He said that everything looked good and that the detectors are old and just needed to be replaced and that they last about 5 to 7 years.

My question is, I know that when the power is on the detectors are on, but they are not going off so that kind of kills the they are "just old" reasoning.

How long do they last and what else should I check.

The C0 detectors are going to be replaced in the next week or so.

It's possible that you heard 'end of life' chirps. If they are marine code ones, they should be hard wired. MN passed a law requiring one in each eclosure, (salon, berth etc) after a 7 year old girl died while taking a nap on the family boat. Her mom is a doctor. Not to be morbid but this happened this week. I just met the guy this spring and the boat is two docks away. I've always run with some ventilation through the cabin, even with just one of my small overhead hatches cracked open a bit. Otherwise my CO alarms would go off too.

We have a 289 without the Alaska bulkhead and our CO detectors were going off regularly when the cabin door was open. We have a camper back canvas and figured out that our best cruising configuration is to leave the back curtains down and the side curtains open and that keeps the CO2 from coming into the cabin. Closing the cabin door and hatch works too. There's probably no need to replace the detectors, it's just the exhaust coming over the transom and under the transom door.
