HELP - LEAK, LEAK, LEAK, FORWARD BOW ESCAPE HATCH - 255SB-gctid814014

While traveling back to the marina today about 5 miles out, a storm opened up today the likes of hurricane amounts rain. I did what I could to get the personal stuff off the boat knowing I'd return later to get the canvass cover up (especially since the dock hands don't operate the fork lift during lighting). I left the bedding down in the forward berth as we are taking another trip in 2 weeks. Well when I returned I noticed that the forward hatch over the berth was leaking. This has not happened before and the hatch has only been opened once in 5 years.

What could have caused this leak (no cracks and the hatch is tight) and what is a fix?

NOTE: Picture is a similar hatch that has 2 lever handles that tighten the window/hatch down.

That looks like the same hatch I had on a Maxum I used to own. I had a leak with the hatch and it was the o rings on the

handles Take the handles off and you should see an o ring. Take it to a hardware store and get a new one.

Before you throw parts or effort at any leaks, get in there and have someone spray the area with a hose to simulate a downpour. I have spent last two years chasing phantom leaks to know that just because the water drips down in certain area it is not necessarily where it actually gets in.

This is the "only" way to get it done!! True story here, my 1997 Trophy 2002 WA had one of the hatch locks broken off before I bought the boat in 2007. It has never leaked lol. I use a elastic tie down to pull the side down when it's shut.

Yes, you need to run the hose on the hatch to find the leak. It will either be the o-rings or the seal. Seal is about $7 per linear foot and you will need approx. 7 feet. O-rings are cheap. Find the leak first. If it is the seal, it helps if you have 2 people and cut the seal at an angle, not perpendicular.
