2015 VR5 220 merc IO (GM) stalls shifting to Nuetral-gctid813149

Just bought it brand new, 2015vr5 with 220 merc IO, the GM block.

Coming into dock either from fwd or rev into neutral. NOT FWD TO REV. The idle slows and about 1/2 time engine stalls.

The boat doesn't have electronic throttles.

Had boats for 40 years, tin tippies and 18' bowriders, worked full time Marine with a 40' LOA with 310DL Volvo pentas with electronic throttles & 5.3 Hurricane with 200 yamahas.

The stalling is not me.

I researched stalling problems with mercruiser before I bought the boat and everything I read had the stalling solved years ago.

Any suggestions, thoughts, or help would be appreciated.

Gotta believe after all those boating years you have you shift fast, and with purpose. No easing into gear. So let's take that out of the equation.

What rpm is the engine in the water, warm engine at idle ?

This is a carbed version ?

VR5 220 should be a 4.3 MPI.

Mercruiser's newest upgraded shift plate was used on this engine...rather than grounding the ignition coil in old traditional way, this shift interrupt switch controls your ECM ecm 555 should be.

Shift interrupt switch could be the culprit.

Sometimes when new the screws holding the switch are too tight, binding it.

He can manually trigger the switch and see if its operating correctly Joon ?
