    Opinion please?-gctid812930

I realize this is a Bayliner site but my friends ahave made an offer on a 1988 Tollycradt 44 Cockpit MY. Engines are Detroit 8.2 inboard 250 hp built in 1988 with 2300 hours. Any opinions on the engines before moving forward with surveys. Have had two opinions saying RUN. Anyone have experience with them?

We have 2 in a 42 tour boat, now on stand by back up ran well for years, replaced 1 with a used Eng. from a school bus. But parts will be harder to find and Mech. to work on the need to be of the Older boomers. My choice would be I f the price is right repower with 2 Cummins 250 HP. and burn less fuel, so that is how I would look at that, just one opinion.

the 8.2 detroit, like all the early detroits, are very heavy engines for their power output... the 8.2 were decent engines when new but after getting a lot of hours on them, they can become high maintenance, as in always something that needs tending to, unlike other diesels of the same era which are very low maintenance, but very similar to an old neglected gas engine...

Is she in Tacoma PT D?

If so, she is in great shape, but IMO they're asking a bit too much .
