Engine starts then dies once gear is engaged-gctid811178
The way the shifting process works is that as you shift, there is an "interrupter switch" that momentarily shuts the engine off (to stop it rotating) so that the gears can engage. It then turns the engine back on. This is done very quickly and the momentary shutdown of the engine is not noticeable when it operates properly. If the engine stalls when you shift, it is usually because the interrupter switch is not operating properly. In my case, I needed to replace the throttle cable.
Start with the basics. Fuel is good. Engine is idling at proper RPM's? Have the carbs ever been rebuilt? You could have something as simple as a sticking choke. Try running from an external fuel source.
