    What is wrong?!-gctid811126

Bayliner 2355 1995/96 5,7 V8 Merc. started and sailed smooth on Friday. Then Saturday very very difficult to start. Idle not possible. Went out in the harbour when I went from forward to idle. Afterwards I looked in the engine room and saw a Chocolate Milk like substante under the engine. Haven't tried to start it again.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks!

Milky Chocolato is usually a mix of oil and water...VERY BAD. Possbilities.. worn out exhaust, cracked head, cracked block, blown head gasket and more. Was the engine over heated?

If you can interpret these responses a little you can "read" that chocolate milk is often water getting into the oil. By looking at the dipstick you can determine if that is what is happening. Chocolate milk on the dipstick reveals the condition of the engine oil. If it is way too full, water is getting added to the level of the oil.

Where is the water coming from is the next question.

The next step is do not start the engine!

I hope you are not stranded.

Chances are there is water mixed in with the oil causing the oil to become milky.

There are several reasons how/why this has happened.

If you are mechanically inclined you may be able to determine the cause yourself. If not then let a professional mechanic determine the cause and best way to repair. Good luck.

We have to decide if it's engine oil, drive oil, trim, power steering.

Exactly or the holding tank is leaking?

Chief, The issue is not where the substance is coming from or what the substance is. If the issue was just the presence of the milky substance then you could look for other sources. Given the description of the substance and the difficulty starting AND the inability to idle it is likely a cracked block, head or head gasket.
